Tired eyes by mid-afternoon, even after a "normal" exam?

You read the 20/20 line, yet screen days still end with a headache, aching eyes or a tight neck. A standard vision check measures how small a letter you can read, not how hard your eyes work to stay aimed together up close.

It is frustrating to be told everything looks fine when your days say otherwise. We evaluate before we recommend anything.

What we offer

What Neurolens is

Neurolens is a prescription eyeglass lens with a small amount of prism that gradually increases from top to bottom, to help your eyes stay aligned at far, computer and reading distances. It suits adults whose eye alignment measures off, and it is not right for everyone.

The eye alignment measurement

An eye alignment measurement is part of a Neurolens evaluation. We go over the results with you and say plainly whether Neurolens is a good fit, including when it is not.

Exams for headaches and eye strain from screens

Headaches and eye strain from screens have more than one cause. Sometimes the answer is an updated prescription or better screen habits, and we say so.

What we do not do: manage migraine or other medical causes of headache. Headaches have many causes, so keep your physician involved.

Your visit in three steps

  1. Book a Neurolens evaluation online or by phone.

  2. Have your evaluation at our St. Cloud office.

  3. Review your results with Dr. LaRue or Dr. Crockett and talk through your options before you decide.

Success looks like knowing whether eye alignment plays a part in your symptoms. Without a measurement, that stays a guess.

What the research says, and its limits

1.53 points

One trial, a small average benefit. In a randomized, double-masked trial of 195 adults with headaches, Neurolens improved a headache-impact score by 1.53 points more than lenses without prism. That was statistically significant but small, the authors wrote that its size "was not clinically significant," and the company funded the study.

7 hours

Screen days are long. The American Optometric Association reports that the average American worker spends seven hours a day on a computer and names poor eye coordination as one contributor to digital eye strain. That describes screen strain in general, not your symptoms.

Neurolens helps some people a lot, some a little and some not at all. The trial did not compare it with standard prism. Percentages in company marketing come from surveys and small studies without a control group, and we do not treat them as proof.

What does it cost to find out?

As a general US range, consumer sites report Neurolens lenses at about $650 for single vision and about $850 for progressives before frames. Those are third-party estimates, not this practice's fees.

Vision plans usually do not cover Neurolens lenses.

HSA and FSA funds are typically eligible for prescribed eyewear. Check your plan first.

Frequently asked questions

Who is a good candidate for Neurolens?

Adults whose headaches, eye strain or neck tension build with screens or reading and whose eye alignment measures off. The trial enrolled ages 18 to 60 only.

Are there side effects?

Providers report that early dizziness or a pulling sensation can occur and that most people adjust within 3 to 7 days, though some need up to three weeks. We have not seen a published long-term study.

How much does Neurolens cost?

Consumer sites report about $650 to $850 for lenses before frames, a general range and not our fee.

Does Neurolens treat migraines?

No. Neurolens addresses eye alignment only, and migraine has other causes. Keep taking any prescribed medication unless your prescribing doctor changes it.
